Västerås, Sweden!

Kevin had an away game last week about 6 hours north in Västerås, Sweden and took some pictures of the city for the blog!

Västerås is a city in central Sweden, located on the shore of Lake Mälaren in the province Västmanland, some 100 km west of Stockholm. The city has a population of 110,877. A number of notable people have come from Västerås, one of them being the Detroit Red Wings retiree Nicklas Lidström, where he started his hockey career playing in the Swedish Elite League for Västerås IK.

Västerås is one of the oldest cities in Sweden and Northern Europe. The name originates from Västra Aros, which refers to the river mouth of Svartån. The area has been populated since the Nordic Viking Age, before 1000 AD. Today Västerås is predominantly known as an industrial city, but also a retailing and logistics city.

Swedish Word of the Day:
Stad ("st-awe-d") meaning City
