Peace Love Wanderlust: Karlskrona!

Yesterday Kevin and I woke up to our bathroom being swarmed by 15 bees. Kevin killed them all. Don't worry he didn't get stung! The bees are bad here in Sweden by the end of August early September and we hear they are especially worse this year. We are ready for bee season to end! We enjoyed a nice afternoon Karlskrona, since he had the day off after getting back at 2 am the night before from his weekend in Norway, where he played some preseason games against Norwegian teams. Tingsryd won 8-2 and 7-2. So it was a good weekend for them!

Karlskrona is located about an hour south of Tingsryd. It's the capital of Blekinge County and is Sweden's only Baroque city. Karlskrona is the only remaining navel base and headquarters to the Swedish Coast Guard. Karlskrona is made up of 30 islands, Trossö being the main one where the city center is located, is where we spent our day.

Stortorget is the main square in Karlskrona and is the biggest in scandinavia. Rådhuset is the town hall housing Blekinge District Court.

Love the old cobble stone and brick roads! careful though don't want to break an ankle!

Fredrikskyrkan (The Frederick Church) is one of the churches in the main square in the city center. There are 3 churches in Karlskrona. Construction began in 1720 and it was consecrated in 1744. Fredrikskyrkan was named after Frederick I. The building designed of a baroque style by Swedish Architect, Nicodemus Tessin the Younger.

Trefaldighetskyrkan (Trinity Church or The German Church) also located in the main square at the city center. Built between 1697-1709 for the towns German population. Also designed by Swedish Architect, Nicodemus Tessin the Younger, including a domed rotunda, which is an influence of Italian Architecture and rarely seen in Swedish Churches.

Karl XI Statue. Karl XI was King of Sweden from 1660- 1697, was known to be the greatest King ever in Sweden and is commemorated on the 500-Kroner bill.

North of the square is Klaipedaplatsen with Big fish fountain by Carl Milles.

Leading Scandinavian hotel chain with destinations all throughout Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.
Also took a picture of this building because I lived the neoclassical architecture.

I really enjoyed walking around an seeing all the beautiful architecture!

Loved all the outside patios and restaurants! too bad they were all closed when Kevin and I wanted to get lunch :( most European restaurants close in the middle of the day like from 2-7. We don't get it!
